Laundry Service – Part 3 – How Are My Clothes Washed

Laundry Service - Part 3 - How Are My Clothes Washed

In an effort to give customers a complete guide to how our residential laundry service works, we wanted to write up a series of blogs explaining the different steps from signing up to the packaging of your clothes and finally the delivery. In the first two blogs, we told you about how to sign up and what to expect with your first pickup. For this third installment, we explain how your clothes are handled and processed in our facility. If you’re interested in reading part 1 or 2 about signup and what to expect during your first delivery, please check out those blogs.

When your clothes arrive back at our warehouse, they are stored on our elevated shelving units until they are ready to be washed. The clothes are tagged with your name and preferences when we pick them up and those tags will move with your clothing from start to finish. Your clothing will always have this tag with it whether it’s waiting to be washed, in the washer, in the dryer, or ready to be sent back out. We never combine or wash your clothes with anyone else’s so your items are always kept separate from start to finish. We take great care to make sure your items are washed properly and returned to you ready to wear and that all starts with making sure each customer’s items are kept separate at all times.

Once your clothing is set to be washed, we take it to a clean stainless steel table where we sort through your items and pre-spot any items that you mark to be pre-treated. Only one person’s laundry is allowed to be on the table at a time to ensure no mixing. We go through your items before washing them to make sure everything is separated, nothing is scrunched up like socks or pants that would prevent a good washing, and we look for anything in the laundry that shouldn’t be washed. And believe me when I say we’ve seen almost everything come through people’s laundry so we try to spot it before it goes into the wash when possible. We’ve seen AirPods, credit cards, lighters, pens, crayons, lots of nerf bullets, golf tees, watches, and probably anything else you can imagine. And while we do catch a lot of things, we cannot catch everything so we do ask that customers do their best to make sure items are removed from their pockets and laundry in general.  If we do pull something from your laundry, we will always include it back in with your returned laundry and yes that includes cash.

Once your items are sorted, they go into the appropriately sized washers. We use that tag on your laundry that identifies your preferences to know exactly what you want. We offer scented and unscented options as well as other requests such as Oxiclean on heavily soiled items or using a little bleach on whites. After items are washed, they are dried with your choice of dryer sheets on low to help prevent shrinkage. We always wash residential items on low to prevent issues and it works out very well for us. We also have dryer balls on hand if you prefer that over dryer sheets. We do our best to accommodate all special requests.

After items are washed and dried, they are pulled straight from the dryers and hung on the sides of clean carts carts to prevent any wrinkling until they are ready to be folded. Then one of our Expert Folders will take the cart full of your clothing to their clean workspace where your items are folded per our folding guidelines. We are very strict about having only one person’s laundry on our folding workspace at a time to prevent any mixup issues. Each folder has a large 4’x8’ table so they have plenty of room to fold even the largest orders. Once items are folded, they are packed, weighed, and put on the shelf ready for your driver to deliver them back to you on your delivery day. Curious how they’re packed exactly? Well stay tuned for the next blog installment to learn more about that.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that since we are not a laundromat, your laundry is never in a place where other random people will have access to it. The only people that ever have access to our building and your laundry are our workers. Our facility is secure with cameras and an alarm that make sure your laundry is always secure.
